The story and the science
I have been 60 years old for a year now. My locs reach my waist. My skin has not changed in the way people expect skin to change. I am not going to pretend I have a complicated skincare routine, because I do not. What I have is a 45-year whole-food protocol that means my body has the raw materials to maintain, repair and renew its own structure — from the inside.
Holi Glow is that protocol, distilled into a single morning scoop.
Why creams cannot do what food can
Collagen is not something you apply. It is something your body builds — from Vitamin C, zinc, specific amino acids, silica, and copper. When these are consistently present in the diet, the body produces collagen in the dermis, the deep layer of skin where structure and elasticity live. When they are absent, no cream, serum or supplement can compensate for what the cell cannot find.
The beauty industry has built a trillion-dollar business on the gap between what skin needs and what most people eat. Holi Glow closes that gap.
Why hair responds to food before it responds to anything else
The hair follicle is one of the most metabolically active structures in the human body. It divides rapidly, demands consistent nutrition, and is exquisitely sensitive to deficiency. When zinc falls — the growth cycle shortens. When iron falls — the follicle loses oxygen and sheds. When biotin falls — the keratin structure weakens and breaks. When copper falls — melanin production slows and colour changes.
My locs are still their original colour at 60. Not because of what I put on them. Because of what I have put in my body, consistently, for forty-five years. Zinc. Biotin. Copper. Iron. In every scoop of Holi Glow.
What every ingredient does — and why
The collagen synthesis layer
Moringa delivers Vitamin C at 15mg per 100g — one of the most bioavailable plant sources — which is the direct trigger for procollagen synthesis in fibroblast cells. Without Vitamin C, the hydroxylation of proline and lysine cannot occur, and collagen cannot form. Moringa also contains quercetin and kaempferol — flavonoid antioxidants that protect existing collagen from oxidative degradation.
Sunflower seeds provide Vitamin E at 35.2mg per 100g — the highest of any plant source — which is the lipid-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes and the skin barrier from oxidative stress. Vitamin E works synergistically with Vitamin C, each amplifying the other's protective effect.
The keratin and hair structure layer
Brewers yeast is the richest natural source of biotin on earth. Biotin is the B vitamin directly responsible for the infrastructure of keratin — the protein from which hair, skin and nails are constructed. Insufficient biotin does not cause dramatic hair loss; it causes progressive weakening of the shaft, brittleness, and reduced growth rate. Consistent biotin intake rebuilds this infrastructure over 90 days — the length of one full hair growth cycle.
Pumpkin seeds provide zinc at 7.8mg per 100g and beta-sitosterol — a plant sterol that blocks the enzyme (5-alpha reductase) responsible for converting testosterone to DHT, the hormone that miniaturises hair follicles and causes the thinning most women notice in their forties. Sea moss contributes sulphur amino acids directly — sulphur is a structural component of keratin, the protein your hair is literally made of.
The colour retention layer
Spirulina contains 6.1mg of copper per 100g — one of the highest plant sources of this mineral. Copper is the cofactor for tyrosinase, the enzyme that catalyses melanin synthesis. Without sufficient copper, melanin production slows and colour change begins. This is not a cosmetic claim — it is basic biochemistry. Consistent copper intake supports the melanocyte's ability to produce and transfer melanin to the hair shaft throughout the growth cycle.
The mineral and omega foundation
Sea moss provides 92 bioavailable minerals including iodine for thyroid function (which directly governs the rate of hair growth), sulphur for keratin protein structure, and natural keratin amino acids — the precise building blocks of the hair shaft. Flax seeds and chia seeds deliver ALA omega-3 fatty acids which maintain the integrity of the skin barrier and reduce the scalp inflammation that impairs follicle function. Hemp protein provides all nine essential amino acids including lysine — a direct collagen cofactor — and GLA, a rare gamma-linolenic acid with anti-inflammatory properties at the skin level.
The gut-skin axis — the connection most beauty products ignore
Skin is downstream of the gut. When the gut microbiome is diverse and the gut lining is intact, systemic inflammation is low — and low systemic inflammation means clearer skin, more even tone, and reduced reactivity. When the gut is compromised, inflammatory compounds enter the bloodstream and manifest at the skin's surface as acne, redness, dullness and accelerated ageing. Oats (beta-glucan), flax fibre, chia gel and sea moss mucilage work together as a prebiotic multi-fibre protocol to feed beneficial bacteria, seal the gut lining, and reduce the systemic inflammation that shows on your face.
Eight grams of complete protein. Twenty-five vitamins and minerals. The collagen precursors. The keratin nutrients. The copper for melanin. The omega-3 for your scalp. The prebiotic fibre for the gut-skin axis. In one scoop. Every morning. For thirty days.
This is not a quick fix. It is a nutritional commitment — to the skin your body is capable of building when it has what it needs.
How to take Holi Glow
Add one heaped scoop (25g) to 300ml of coconut milk, almond milk or your favourite smoothie base. Blend with mango and papaya for the Empress Glow smoothie — the bromelain in papaya enhances collagen production synergistically. Take every morning, consistently. Skin changes become visible at Day 10. Hair changes become visible at Day 30. Full structural change — the hair that grows in Month 3 — reflects Month 1 nutrition.
